What is the controversy surrounding the Karur stampede?
During Vijay's rally on September 27, 2025, a stampede occurred in the Karur district of Tamil Nadu, resulting in 41 fatalities and over 60 injuries.
When the actor first appeared before the central probe agency on January 12, he was asked to return the following day after being questioned for more than six hours. But Vijay, citing Pongal, asked for a different date. As part of the investigation, the CBI has so far questioned a number of TVK office bearers, Vijay's driver, and a few police officers.
The controversy surrounding Jana Nayagan
Jana Nayagan, Vijay's final movie, was scheduled for release on January 9. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not approve it, so the release was delayed. On January 15, the producers' appeal in the Jana Nayagan dispute was heard by the Supreme Court.
The Madras High Court initially heard the case before it was transferred to the Supreme Court. The top court rejected the Jana Nayagan manufacturers' request for temporary relief during the hearing. The Madras High Court will now hear the case once more tomorrow, January 20.
