Washington:US President Donald Trump has said the United States would halt ongoing technical discussions with Iran if Tehran refuses to allow nuclear inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), insisting that inspection access had already been agreed as part of current negotiations.
“Iran has not committed to allowing UN nuclear watchdog inspectors into the country,” Trump told reporters after arriving in Pennsylvania for a visit to the Mack Trucks facility in Lehigh County Tuesday.
Trump, asked about the deployment of inspectors under a possible deal, said, “They’re wrong. They are wrong. They are wrong. They know they are wrong. They told us inside and we’ve got it down 100 per cent for inspections. And if they were right, I would cancel the meetings now.
When asked about when inspections would start, he said, “At the appropriate time. There’s no urgency to it, but they will be on the ground at the appropriate time.
Talks in positive direction, says TrumpTalks between Washington and Tehran were going well and Iran’s position in the talks had been “greatly weakened,” Trump said.
"We're doing very well with the Iranians. “They’ve been decimated and we’re making a deal with them and we’ll see how that all goes,” he said.
The US President also mentioned the developments regarding the oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz after the first rounds of technical talks held in Switzerland within the framework of a 14-point memorandum of understanding aiming at easing regional tensions.
“We had 19 barrels of oil come off, and that’s the biggest in the history of the Strait of Hormuz, as you probably heard yesterday,” he said.
Iran will not have nuclear weaponTrump repeated Washington’s position on Iran’s nuclear program, saying: “And the big thing is Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.”
Iran’s military capabilities had also been “badly damaged”, he said.
We put Iran in a position that no one has ever been in. Other presidents should have done this for 47 years. And we have got Iran in a position where their military has been totally wiped out. Their leadership has been gutted. «Their radar's been knocked out,» he said.
Trump also said that any future economic deals with Iran would take into account the humanitarian needs of the country.
“Money that’s going to be taken out of Iran is going to go to our farmers to give corn, soybeans, wheat to Iran because they have a hunger problem. They have a food thing. “They got a medicine problem,” he said.
