Lahore:The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Thursday (June 15) called for the hospitalisation of former prime minister and party founder Imran Khan and an end to his “solitary confinement” immediately. The party of Khan demanded the restoration of the right of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan to hold weekly meetings with his family members, lawyers and political associates, in a statement issued on Thursday.
The 73-year-old cricketer-turned politician has been held at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail since August 2023 in connection with several cases including corruption, leaking state secrets and an unlawful marriage — charges he has denied.
The party called Khan should be allowed to have regular telephonic contact with his sons and access to books, newspapers and other reading material. The last time the government allowed Khan to see one of his sisters in prison was December 5, 2025.
What are PTI's demands? The party demanded that the former Prime Minister be immediately shifted to Shifa International Hospital for complete medical checkup and treatment under the supervision of specialist doctors.
These demands were not special privileges but basic legal and human rights that must be secured without further delay, the party said.
Senior party leader Shaukat Basra told news agency PTI that the party was planning a mass mobilisation campaign against what it said was the inhumane treatment of Khan in prison.
“This regime does not respect human rights, does not respect the rights of a prisoner. The rulers should remember that they will not be in power forever and one day they will be answerable before the people of Pakistan,” he said demanding justice for Khan.
He also demanded the shifting of Khan from solitary confinement and once again reiterated his demand for immediate shifting of Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment.
Khan has a problem with his eye. He was diagnosed with a retinal vein occlusion at the end of January. Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad for eye treatment earlier this month.
Imran Khan receives medical treatment for eye ailmentIn April Khan was shifted to a government hospital for treatment of an ongoing eye condition. The 74-year-old was examined at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) where doctors gave him another dose of medication before sending him back to custody.
Khan’s family and his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, have repeated calls for better medical arrangements. They have petitioned the authorities to shift him to a private healthcare centre where he could be treated by private doctors in the presence of his family members. “Whatever the treatment, our concern remains unanswered,” Party chairman Gohar Ali Khan confirmed the medical visit in a post on X. He emphasized that the right to proper medical care under the supervision of family is fundamental.
