Sydney:Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity has increased across the globe over the years, and along with this, the trust of world has kept rising in India. India, which is expected to become the third largest economy of the world, remains one of the fewest countries in the globe that can be trusted upon.
This was backed by the latest survey of Australia’s thinktank
Lowly Institute, which said that Australians trust India under PM Modi more than Donald Trump-led United States (US), Xi Jinping's China and Putin-led Russia.
The survey, released on June 23, found that 50 per cent of Australians trust India, and just 31 per cent trust the US. The survey said that 28 per cent and 11 per cent Australians have trust in China and Russia respectively, which further reiterates India’s growing stature across the world.
The
Lowly InstituteThe survey found 46 per cent of Australians "somewhat trusted in India to act responsibly in the world". Further, 4 per cent of Australians have a ‘great deal of trust’ in India’s leadership.
Australians are wary of the two superpowers and have low levels of trust in both the United States and China. “Trust in the United States to behave responsibly in the world among Australians has dropped to 31 per cent, the lowest level measured in the Lowy Institute Poll,” the report said.
PM Modi continues to remain in power for last 12 yearsEven in the past, surveys have shown that despite PM Modi being in office for 12 years in a row, the trust of the world in him and his leadership is intact. A survey by last year had claimed PM Modi had a staggering 75 per cent approval ratings, the highest in the world.
Notably, it was the fifth consecutive time that the Indian Prime Minister topped the list.
And . In doing so he has set the record for longest-serving elected prime minister. But most of the other countries have seen a series of leadership changes since PM Modi took over as the prime minister. Australia has had three prime ministers since 2016. They were Malcolm Turnbull, Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese (current PM).
Speaking of the UK, the country has had five prime ministers since 2016 -- Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer. Starmer has also resigned, his replacement is to be announced shortly and will be the sixth UK prime minister in the past 10 years.
Likewise, there have been changes in leadership in the US since 2014. It was Barack Obama who was the president when PM Modi first took oath as prime minister in 2014. Donald Trump became president in 2016, but lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden. But then, in 2024, Trump was back in power for a second term.
