New Delhi:Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh is all set to join Delhi Capitals’ coaching staff for 2027. He has been instrumental in grooming Punjab cricketers like Abhishek Singh, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, among others, who went on to find success in the IPL and for the national team. This will be Yuvraj’s first professional coaching job.
A senior DC official confirmed the development and added that many of Yuvraj’s teammates like Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag have already donned the coaching hat and it was only a matter of time for him to come to the set-up. His experience of working with young talent earlier will help the Capitals, who are still in search of their maiden IPL title.
Who does not want a Yuvraj Singh in the dugout? Several of his former team-mates including Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag have joined him in the coaching ranks of the IPL. Yuvraj might be a little late to the party but he has spent enough time working with youngsters and understanding the demands of the role, a source was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
“He’s not just coaching players, he’s guiding them. It’s not just about phone calls or virtual sessions. He’s on the ground for hours, often behind the nets, working under the sun with his players. “It’s a really hands-on approach that has helped a lot of cricketers,” the source added.
Yuvraj likely to pair with Sourav GangulyIn an earlier deal, JSW will be in charge of the men’s team for the next couple of years in the IPL, while GMR will look after the women’s team. So, Sourav Ganguly, the Director of Cricket for all JSW-owned cricket teams, will be back on the men’s side.
He was the coach of Pretoria Capitals in the last edition of SA20 and it won’t be a surprise if Delhi make him the head coach as well. Especially given that Pretoria were so close to claiming their maiden title.
There are also reports he will be named the next DC captain in the meantime. is rumoured to be traded to Lucknow Super Giants in exchange of former skipper Rishabh Pant.
