New Delhi:Veteran singer Alka Yagnik was conferred with Padma Bhushan by President Droupadi Murmu on June 23. This was one of her few public appearances, especially after the singer revealed in 2024 that she was suffering from a rare “sensory neural nerve hearing loss”. Alka Yagnik gave fans a health update with a shocking post; shared a picture of herself on June 17, 2024 She had written, "To all my fans, friends, followers and well wishers. A couple of weeks ago I was getting off a flight and all of a sudden I couldn’t hear anything. In the weeks after the episode I have gathered some courage and want to break my silence now for all my friends and well wishers who have been asking me why I’m missing in action.
“My doctors diagnosed it as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, caused by a viral attack…This sudden and serious reverse has come upon me very unexpectedly. please keep me in your prayers as I try to come to terms with it I would add a word of caution to my fans and young colleagues about exposure to very loud music and headphones. I'll tell you someday about the health hazards of my professional life. “Hopefully, with all your love and support, I can re-calibrate my life and come back to you soon.” Your support and understanding will be a great comfort to me at this critical hour."

The singer talked about her health issues and shared a picture with President Murmu, writing, “For the past two years, I have been away from the limelight, from public appearances and from sharing much of my journey. Many of you knew I am going through hard health and through it all your love, prayers, messages and constant support has been with me every step of the way."
Today, I received one of the highest civilian awards in the country, the prestigious Padma Bhushan, with a heart full of gratitude as I walked out to receive it, she added. “This honour is so humbling and even though my name is on it, it belongs to every listener who opened their lives to my voice, who carried my songs through generations and who stood by me through the good times and the challenges.”
