New Delhi:Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik was honoured with the Padma Bhushan at the Padma Awards ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday. This marked one of her rare public appearances since she talked about her health journey after the diagnosis of a rare hearing disorder.
On Wednesday, singer Alka Yagnik, who is known for her hit song ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’, took to Instagram to talk about her health concerns. Alka Yagnik has been avoiding public appearances as she is “slowly finding my way back,” she said.
Alka Yagnik opens up on her health journey after receiving Padma Bhushan honour
Addressing the concerns, the singer wrote, "For the last two years, I have stayed away from the spotlight, from public appearances, and from sharing much of my journey. “Many of you knew I am going through difficult health and through all of it, your love, prayers, messages and unwavering support has stayed with me every step of the way.
"Today as I stepped out to receive one of the highest civilian honours of the country - the distinguished Padma Bhushan, I did so with a heart full of gratitude," she added. This honour is deeply humbling, and while my name may be on it, it belongs just as much to every listener who welcomed my voice into their lives, carried my songs through generations, and stood by me through both the highs and the challenges." Reflecting on her health struggles and the honour, she said: “This moment feels even more special because it is not only an acknowledgement of my work, but also a reminder of the power of love, hope and resilience. I am slowly finding my way back, and I wanted to be here today - not only for myself, but for each and every one of you who have been a part of this journey."
He also said in the note, “I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of India for conferring upon me this extraordinary honour. “I take it with a lot of humility and respect.”
Alka Yagnik concluded her note with, "Thank you for your warmth, your kindness, your prayers and your faith in me over the years. I carry it all with me. Today I did not just accept an award - I felt the love of millions who have been part of my journey. Thank you Love, Alka (sic)."

Alka Yagnik suffers from rare sensory neural hearing loss
For the uninitiated, Alka Yagnik had revealed in 2024 that she was diagnosed with a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss due to a viral attack. “To all my fans, friends, followers and well wishers. The singer wrote on her Instagram post.Just a couple of weeks ago when I was leaving a flight I suddenly felt like I couldn’t hear anything.In the weeks that followed the episode, I have gathered some courage to break my silence now for all my friends and well wishers who have been asking me why I’m missing in action.”
It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack…,” she added.I never expected such a sudden and terrible setback. Please keep me in your prayers as I try to process this. A word of caution about exposure to very loud music and headphones, to my fans and young colleagues. One day I want to tell you about the health hazards of my professional life. I hope to recalibrate my life and come back to you soon with all your love and support”.
