Beijing:Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is in China right now, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday. He made it clear that Tehran would only accept a "fair and comprehensive" deal to end the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Iran’s ISNA news agency quoted Araghchi as saying that Iran wants a full and balanced solution to the crisis while protecting its legitimate interests. “We will accept only a fair and comprehensive agreement,” he said in the meeting.
Araghchi also praised China’s stance on the conflict, particularly Beijing’s condemnation of the actions of the United States and Israel. He described China as a close friend of Iran and said bilateral cooperation would be strengthened in the present circumstances.
“The war that has been declared against us is a flagrant violation of international law and a brazen act of aggression. "In the negotiations we will do our utmost to protect our legitimate rights and interests," Araghchi said.
At the same time, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed the urgency of a comprehensive ceasefire in West Asia. China is ready to make efforts to reduce tensions in the region, Wang told ISNA.
“A full ceasefire is necessary and inevitable,” Wang Yi said, also stressing the importance of direct dialogue between the concerned parties as the region faces what he said was a critical turning point.
The Beijing talks came after a formal invitation from Wang Yi and were part of what Araghchi told Telegram was Iran’s “ongoing diplomatic consultations” with global partners. The two leaders exchanged views on the deteriorating geopolitical situation in West Asia, China’s Foreign Ministry said.
Araghchi’s visit to China is part of a three-nation diplomatic tour that also included Pakistan, Oman and Russia, aimed at building international support amid rising regional tensions. Araghchi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg, where Putin reportedly told him that Moscow was prepared to do “everything in its power” to help bring a peaceful settlement to the US and Israeli conflict.
Araghchi has also discussed regional security and maritime stability, in addition to broader strategic consultations. During talks in Oman, he spoke about the Strait of Hormuz, saying consultations between Iran and Oman were needed, as safe transit through the vital waterway has become a major global concern.
Iran’s recent diplomatic overtures are part of a wider effort by Tehran to strengthen relations with regional and global powers amid escalating tensions on regional influence and strategic waterways in West Asia.
