New Delhi:Neetu Kapoor, who starred in the recently released Daadi Ki Shaadi with , opened up about the difficult time she faced after the demise of her husband, Rishi Kapoor. She talked about the backlash she got for going back to work so soon after his death.
Neetu Kapoor on coping with life after Rishi Kapoor
After an absence of nearly nine years, Neetu Kapoor made her comeback as an actor with JugJugg Jeeyo. But she says many people online didn’t understand her decision to work again and the trolling really affected her. In the latest episode of Soha Ali Khan’s YouTube show All About Her, Neetu spoke about how she was emotionally shattered during that time. The episode also featured her daughter, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni.
“I’ve just started work. He died, and I did JugJugg Jeeyo. I just went to work to get my confidence back. “I was in such a bad state and it was so hurting when people used to say ke ‘ohh he passed away, and she jumped into work’. That was terrible. But they don’t understand why I did it. I’ve got to tell you what happened to me. When he died, I couldn’t sleep for a month or two, and I got into drinking. “When I started drinking, then I could not sleep without a drink,” Neetu shared.
The actor said that she was uncomfortable seeing herself in that state, especially because she has always been particular about health and discipline. I wanted to go to sleep and to numb my head. I didn't like me. I called my doctor and asked for help...So she connected me with a gynaecologist who used to come to my place at night at around 11 pm, inject me and put me to sleep. She used to sit there till I was not asleep. She used to tell my staff to watch me. This went on for 10 days. And on 11th or 12th day, I called her and informed her that ‘I am good and I can move on’.... But I had toI wanted to drug my head and go to sleep. I didn't like myself. I called my doctor and asked for help …
Neetu had also shared that she was very nervous while shooting for JugJugg Jeeyo. She had called herself a “nervous wreck” while going through the process. Going back to work helped her rebuild her confidence and become stronger emotionally, she said.
Rishi Kapoor died in 2020
Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor tied the knot on January 22, 1980 and went on to become one of the most loved couples of Hindi cinema, on and off screen. They have two children, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and actor . During the 1970s and 1980s, Rishi and Neetu appeared together in a number of hit films including Amar Akbar Anthony, Khel Khel Mein, Rafoo Chakkar, Kabhi Kabhie and Besharam.
Rishi Kapoor diagnosed with leukemia in 2018. He went to New York for treatment soon after, and was there for nearly a year. The actor returned to India in 2019 and got back to work and featured in a few projects despite his health struggles. However, early in 2020, his condition deteriorated and he was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai. Rishi Kapoor lost his battle with cancer on April 30, 2020. He was 67 years old.
