Delhi:The National Commission for Women (NCW) has set up a hearing about the song Sarke Chunar, which has caused a lot of controversy. Nora Fatehi, an actress and dancer, has come to the NCW office. She is supposed to appear before the Commission on May 7.The hearing will happen on time and as planned in NCW, Jasola.
In March, the NCW first looked into the case when it sent summons to Nora Fatehi, actor Sanjay Dutt, lyricist Raqueeb Alam, producer Venkat K. Narayana, and director Kiran Kumar after reading media reports about the song "Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke."
The Commission said at the time that the song seemed to have "sexually suggestive and objectionable" content. ANI also said that the visuals and lyrics were a problem under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the IT Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The NCW said it took the issue seriously after reports and complaints said the track was obscene and vulgar. The Commission said that, at first glance, the content seemed bad and needed to be looked at more closely.
After the song came out, the controversy around it grew quickly. The song, which starred Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, got a lot of bad reviews. Some people and groups said that the lyrics and visuals made women look bad. Soon after, people called for legal action and the song to be taken off the air, which sparked a larger public debate.
The problem also made its way to Parliament. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, told the Lok Sabha that the song had been banned because of the backlash and complaints it caused. During a discussion, Samajwadi Party MP Anand Bhadouria asked a question that brought up the issue.
Earlier, Sarke Chunar with Sanjay Dutt’s part Nora Fatehi responded to the controversy through a video on Instagram. The clip showed that the song was actually filmed three years ago. She said the makers had translated the Kannada lyrics into Hindi and used them without her approval. She agreed to be a part of the project because of the people attached to it, including what she called a “icon” Sanjay Dutt, Nora said.
She also said that AI was used to create a photo of her and Sanjay Dutt, which she is totally against. The Dilbar Dilbar actor further elaborated on the situation and said that unlike star kids, independent artistes like her don’t have strong backing in the industry and have to face such situations alone. Nora, who watched the song in both Kannada and Hindi versions, said she had told the film’s director that the Hindi lyrics could invite backlash. But she says those concerns were brushed off. She also said that this is why she decided not to promote the song in the first place.
The actor then thanked the audience for speaking out against the track, saying that the outrage from the public finally prompted the makers to take it down from social media. In the caption she wrote, "I would hate for anyone to think I endorse this.. thank you for the backlash because of this pressure the filmmakers have luckily taken it down Id also request everyone to stop sharing the song because ur just giving it a platform unnecessarily. On a side note I see some of u guys trying to use this as an opportunity to attack my character..it’s unfortunate Anyways me and my team will be more careful in the future in such situations. But I want to reiterate that I had no idea about this HindiShe wrote in the caption, “HATE for anyone to think I endorse this..
