The Indian team performed brilliantly as they took on Sri Lanka in the Women's Asia Cup 2026 final. The two sides met at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 13th, and it was .
The question of whether or not the side will take the Asia Cup trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi was the talk of the town among fans after the game. The Women in Blue, as expected, did not even come out of the dressing room to receive their winner’s medal and also refused to take the trophy from Naqvi.
Note that a similar scenario transpired when the Indian men's team clinched the Asia Cup title in 2025 by defeating Pakistan.
What occurred in 2025?Interestingly, as per the protocol, Naqvi should hand over the trophy to the winning team, but the same did not happen in 2025 Asia Cup final after India beat Pakistan in Dubai. Despite defeating Pakistan in the clash, the men’s cricket team was denied the trophy and the side went on to celebrate with an imaginary title.
The post-match ceremony then became even more chaotic as the proceedings got delayed by more than an hour. Naqvi left the venue with the Asia Cup trophy after proceedings and a similar controversy was also seen in the final of Women’s Asia Cup.
What Harmanpreet Kaur said after the win?India captain Harmanpreet Kaur stepped into the limelight and reflected on her side’s performance, lauding the efforts of her players which helped her to lift the Women in Blue’s 8th Asia Cup title after a comfortable win over Sri Lanka in the clash.
“We feel this way because we know how much potential we have and we have a good team. “I think we played up to our standards because that’s what we talked about when we came here, that we have certain standards that we have to keep matching day in and day out. “And we are very happy with the way we all performed,” said Harmanpreet Kaur during the post-match presentation ceremony.
