Like the trend of today, it seems Neelam Kothari too went back to the 80s, when the rumor mills would churn out buzz about her relationship with Govinda.The actor, who collaborated closely with Govinda in the 1980s and 1990s, said that she was not aware of his marriage when they were rumored to be in a romantic relationship and came to know about it later. Her husband Sameer Soni was by her side and he too reacted to the rumors.

Neelam and onscreen pairs of their time, teamed in films such as Khudgarz, Hatya, Ilzam, Love 86, Sindoor, Farz Ki Jung, and Gharana among others. At the time, their professional camaraderie also gave rise to speculation about their personal relationship.
Neelam told Times Now talking about the old rumors, “I was too young. I didn’t know he had a woman. "I heard about it later". Her parents wouldn't have ever let her have a boyfriend, she said. "I was very young and I had very strict parents. “So a relationship was never in the cards,” she said.
The actress also spoke about how her family kept a close eye on her during the early years of her career. “Because of my age, I was accompanied by a family member during the shoots,” Neelam revealed. “I was always with a family member because I was so young,” she said. “It wasn’t because the industry was a bad place.
Samir Soni’s take on Govinda-Neelam speculation
Neelam’s husband, actor Samir Soni, also spoke out on the speculation around his wife’s past. When asked if he had ever felt the need to confront Govinda over the old rumors, Samir dismissed the idea, saying he didn’t even know Neelam at the time.
